| Sweet Shredded Pastry With Cheese |
Ingredients
200 g margarine
375 g white cheese (un-salted)
450 g sugar
350 g water
2 teaspoons lemon juice
500 g shredded pastry
Cooking Instructions
First combine sugar and water in a saucepan. Stir over low heat until sugar is dissolved. Boil gently for five minutes. Add lemon juice; stir. Boil for one minute. Set aside. Combine shreds and melted butter in a pan. Break shreds in butter blending very well with tips of fingers. Divide into half. Spread one half in a slightly greased baking pan 25x25 cm . Press with fingers slightly. Spread cheese over shreds. Repeat the same with the remaining half, pressing firmly this time. Bake in a moderate oven until golden brown. Remove from oven. Let stand for two minutes. Pour warm syrup over. Cover and let stand until syrup is absorbed. Cut into five cm pieces. Arrange on a serving plate. Serve warm.
